Fall Honey-Do List

fall-to-do-list

You’ll have to forgive us if we’re always talking about seasons around here, our lives kind of revolve around them. Believe it or not with this wicked heat we’re experiencing, fall is just around the corner. And just as sure as those leaves will blow and that snow will fall, there are a few things that need to be done around the house and yard to get everything in tip-top cold weather shape. Think of it like spring cleaning only the, uh, fall version. Better to take care of it sooner rather than later (you know if you’ve learned the hard way.)

Here are a few things to take care of in and around the house:

-Tidy the attic — and check for roof leaks while you’re up there!

-Clean drapes, blinds, and window coverings; just make sure to check each for instructions first

-Dust all electronics; computers, keyboards, stereos, etc.

-Replace all air filters. The cleaner they are the more energy you’ll reserve.

-Flip all mattresses.

-Manually, yes by hand, clean out the oven.

-Check everything in the pantry for expiration dates.

-Wipe down all pantry shelves; check to see if you’re low or out of any baking/cooking staples.

-Dust/vacuum the refrigerator coil.

-Clean or polish kitchen countertops.

-Restock bathroom items like toilet paper, towels, and soap.

-Clean out that yucky toothbrush holder.

-Dust/vacuum windowsills.

-Clean carpets and rugs.

-Check the caulking or weather seals around your windows. Your electricity bill is dependent on this.

-Get that driveway redone! There’s still time before snow falls. You’ll thank yourself when shoveling is easier, and again in the spring for not putting it off another summer.

-Clean the gutters and downspouts.

-Replace all outdoor lighting bulbs and clean lighting fixtures.

-Schedule furnace inspection.

-Stock up on deicing salt.

-Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
